For the fifth time luthier Stefan Sonntag is inviting to a Jazz workshop with Uli Hoffmeier and for the third time in a row this workshop will take place in the South of France. Sensational for this year's workshop is the inclusion of the New York Jazz legend Bucky Pizzarelli as one of the lecturers. Since 1943 Bucky has been on the Jazz stage and made himself a name as one of the best rhythm guitarists (i.e. with Benny Goodman) and also as a soloist on a seven string archtop, playing with all sorts of influencing Jazz legends. As a Mel-Bay-Author he has written many instruction books.
The site
With a little sadness but a positive attitude we can now announce that the place of event has changed from the lovely cloistral Frigolet with the especially nice landlord and lady Gilles and Brigitte Ribeaudeau, to the residence “Le Castelas” in Aiguezue in the south east of the Cevennes. It is a beautiful hotel in a medieval but modernised castle wich is also the centre of the medieval little town on a cliff high above the wonderful river Ardeche. You will have an individual hotel room which is tastefully decorated. Two rooms with two beds and each with a bath room are combined with a living room to an apartment. Some few apartments have a balcony from which you can see the fantastic view over the Cevennes and the Ardeche valley. The Hotel has 25 rooms and for the lessons we have two big “saloons” but there is also the possibility to give the lessons outside at the pool.
If we run out of rooms there is the possibility to have some rooms in a close by hotel called Le Relais which is right next to the other hotel. Our hotel can lent you Mountain-bikes free of charge or for the water sport fanatics you can go on a canoe trip down the famous Ardeche. The hotel also organises hiking trips through the Ardeche valley and wine tasting sessions.
Catering
The Hotel offers meals in the restaurant “Chez David” which is next to the hotel. Breakfast costs 8 € per person and for lunch they can organize tastings from a little buffet between 7 and 10 €. For dinner you can have two menus between 20 and 30 euros or you can dine à la carte.

The workshop
The lessons will last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m..
We are going to have two tutor groups with one tutor each. At half time of the workshop the groups are going to change tutors. Everbody is invited to begin or join a session at any time.
On the last evening of the workshop a good-bye concert is planned which will hopefully be joined by every participant. Please don’t forget to take note stand and an amps if needed.
The tutors
Ulrich Hoffmeier has been playing guitar in the Palast Orchestra with its singer Max Raabe for the last ten years. Besides the guitar he also plays banjo, mandolin, violin and other string instruments. He is more then willing to teach people all he knows. Besides rhythmn guitar in the style of Freddie Green he especially pays attention to the licks and patterns which make the voice of Jazz and which are explained in the highly recommended book “The Language of Jazz” by Jerry Coker. Ulrich Hoffmeier transformed them to guitar and added grip tables and finger positions for better practice. This year he is especially paying attention to bass-accord accompanying which is deal for duos, combos or even solo situations. To all the above mentioned he will provide scripts which can be handed out if the participants like.

Hotel
The participants have to balance all costs of the hotel and catering directly with the hotel. The hotel will take a deposit of 200 € which will have to be transfered by you to the bank account of the Hotel Le Castelas to insure that the room is going to be reserved for you.

In case of a cancellation
- in case of cancellations before August 1st, 2007 the complete course cost except for 20,-€ will be returned. After August 1st there won't be any returns.
- In the case that we won't get enough participants we are going to cancel the workshop and will return all the money.
- The workshop can hold max. 20 people.
- in case of Bucky Pizzarelli not showing we won't return any money. In case of a cancellation by Bucky (not expected) we are going to try to provide a different tutor.
